Repair when the cover is intact and the damage is surface-level: scuffs, light scrapes, small cracks, a dented corner that hasn't torn through. Replace when the cover is cracked across a structural rib, when the reinforcement bar behind it is bent, when mounting tabs are broken, or when parking sensors or cameras were damaged in the hit.

We pull the cover to inspect what's behind it before we quote. A cover that looks fine from the outside can hide a bent reinforcement bar that won't absorb the next impact correctly — and a cover that looks destroyed can sometimes have a good structure underneath. We'll tell you which one you have.

If the damage came from a collision — you hit something or something hit you — it falls under collision coverage, subject to your deductible. If it came from vandalism, a hit-and-run, a falling object, or an animal strike, it's a comprehensive claim, usually with a lower deductible and no rate increase.
